English Martyr’s Church – Worthing
Tuesday 7th July 2026
The Social Committee are planning a visit to the English Martyr’s Church in Worthing to view the painted ceiling, followed by a visit to Shoreham Airport for lunch/ afternoon tea in the Art Deco cafe (price of lunch/tea not included in price quoted for the trip).
The plan is to leave Battle by coach to Worthing to view the wonderful ceiling in the church, which is an exact scaled down replica of that in the Sistine chapel in Rome. Time will be spent viewing the ceiling and beautiful stained-glass windows, before embarking on the coach to the Art Deco cafe - The Hummingbird cafe, at Shoreham Airport. Once refreshed we return to Battle, via Beachy Head.
Timings:
- 10.30 am – Pick up the coach at the coach park behind Jempsons
- 11.45 am – Arrive at the English Martyr’s Church
- 12.45 pm – Leave for Shoreham
- 1.15 pm – Arrive at the Hummingbird cafe – Shoreham
- 3.30 pm – Leave Shoreham to head for Battle via Beachy head
- 4.30 pm – Arrive Battle
Apart from picking up the coach at 10.30 am, times are the best approximation.
The cost of the coach will depend on how many people wish to come. If we have a 22 seater and fill it the cost will be £22 per person. If we don’t fill the coach the cost will have to be increased to pay for the coach. If we have enough to order a 35 seater coach the cost will be £17, again if full, but may be more if not full. Unfortunately, no refunds can be made (but you may find someone to take your place).
